Vimeo is an interesting video sharing website. The videos featured on that website are usually of excellent quality and some of them are real pieces of art such as A Short Love Story In Stop Motion by Carlos Lascano, who is also the author of other very nice videos such as The Legend Of The Scarecrow and The Can.



I profoundly respect this kind of art. For my amateur eyes, it is undistinguishable from pure magic. You can find more info about this artist on his website.

Earlier this year, I posted a blog entry about The Souljazz Orchestra, an excellent Afrobeat band from Canada (yes, these guys are from Canada and don't go wonder how they can produce such a warm sound because it would be really so cliché), and their really cool album Freedom Go No Die which featured Insurrection, an incredible song! Quoting myself:

I've never heard something as innovative in the Afrobeat landscape as Insurrection, save for Antibalas. It has a very Funky tone made of an elaborate intertwinement of African and Occidental Drums with warm Saxophones. The Musical genre created by Fela Kuti is alive and kicking! Freedom Go No Die features other excellent songs such as Mista President and The Blind Leading The Blind [...] And if you don't like the Music, maybe you can't resist the beauty of the cover art which I just find awesome!

They have recently released a new album called Manifesto and I think it’s even better than Freedom Go No Die. This album is actually redefining Afrobeat in my humble opinion. The Afrobeat landscape has exploded in the last few years. Seun and Femi Kuti, sons of the late Fela, released amazing albums. While Seun kept the sound rather close to the original Afrobeat, Femi intertwined it with Jazz. But when it comes to innovation, musicality and an excellent sense of Funk, The SoulJazz Orchestra is the top dog.

Should I select one song from all the excellent ones that are featured in Manifesto, it would be State Terrorrism with no hesitation due to its much rapid pace and funkier tone. Next would come Parasite, Kapital and People People. You can hear the latter now and then on Radio Nova, my favorite French radio.

Oh, and the album’s artwork is still awesome ;)

La Commission Européenne a fixé -à partir du 1er septembre dernier- de nouveaux plafonds autorisés pour la présence de résidus de pesticides dans les aliments. Ce règlement a pour but d'harmoniser les seuils au niveau européen et ainsi remplacer les seuils actuellement appliqués au niveau national. Cette harmonisation est malheureusement faite au détriment de notre santé et celle de nos enfants. En effet, elle a pour effet une augmentation très importante des limites existantes sur 349 pesticides différents.
« pour chaque pesticide, la Commission a identifié le pays ayant la plus mauvaise limite de sécurité et a adopté ce niveau pour les normes européennes» explique Hans Muilerman, porte-parole de l’ONG néerlandaise Natuur en Milieu.

Selon une étude réalisée par Greenpeace et l'ONG autrichienne Global 2000, la consommation de pommes, poires, raisins, tomates et poivrons pourraient poser des risques pour la santé des enfants.

"Pour un enfant pesant 16,5 kilos, la dose de pesticide dangereuse pour la santé est dépassée après la consommation de 20 grammes de raisin (soit 5 à 7 grains), 40 grammes de pomme ou 50 grammes de prunes", affirme le biochimiste Helmut Burtscher, cité par Global 2000.

A ma connaissance, et à part une hypothétique action citoyenne, les seules solutions à long terme consistent à consommer bio ou à souscrire à une AMAP (Association pour le Maintien de l'Agriculture Paysanne) dont le cahier de charges s'inspire fortement du cahier des charges de l'Agriculture Biologique.

Si vous vous intéressez au Design, je vous conseille de lire le Blog Esprit-Design (fil RSS). On y trouve régulièrement des mini-articles portant sur des objets Design tels que ces sympathiques poufs souche conçus par la société estonienne Woodoo.



Je tends à penser que, de façon générale, Beauté rime avec Simplicité et j’ai une attirance particulière pour les objets et les personnes simples. Et cette « philosophie » transparaît dans ces poufs.

Au vu de ma fréquentation assez régulière de certaines enseignes culinaires où on mange généralement bien et dans un cadre agréable (voir par exemple Gabriela ou Chez Denise), j’ai créé il y a quelques temps une carte Google Maps pour référencer les adresses que je recommande et celles qui m’ont été recommandées par des amis. Chaque entrée est commentée et un avis succinct est fourni lorsque je l’ai personnellement testé.

Mon but n’est pas de cataloguer tous les bons restaurants de Paris mais de disposer de quelques adresses pour varier les goûts et les plaisirs et les partager. Si vous avez des suggestions, n’hésitez pas à me les soumettre. Je les intégrerais si elles ne sont pas trop nombreuses ou éloignées des critères que je recherche dans un restaurant, à savoir : simplicité, qualité, convivialité et partage.

A close friend sent me a link to a YouTube video. It’s a footage taken from a documentary called Playing For Change. I’ve never heard of it before. Actually it’s more than a documentary. It’s a movement that aims to bring Peace through Music. This is indeed a laudable goal and the video illustrates it very nicely. Street Music in all its beauty.
